Embracing Now: How Gen-Z Can Thrive Amid Digital Noise
Hello there, fellow explorers of the mind. Today, I want to share my thoughts about the journey I've been on, and how it's shaped the way I see the world around me. Life has its twists and turns, and I've found myself in a calm and collected state of mind, despite the chaos that can sometimes surround us.
Back in the day, I was quite the free-spirited individual, seeking out unique experiences wherever I could. One pivotal moment was when I was just 12 years old, and I had the chance to go to the US for a summer camp. That was when I first learned about being your own person and not worrying too much about what others think. This whole "do your own thing" mindset really stuck with me, even as I returned to my home in Vietnam, where things are quite different.
You see, in Vietnam, we have these deep-rooted ways of thinking that have been around for ages. But my time in the US opened my eyes to a new way of looking at things. However, as I've grown, I've realized that it's not about rejecting where you come from, but about finding a balance between old traditions and new ideas.
Recently, I read a book by Yuval Noah Harari called "Homo Deus," and it got me thinking. He talks about how there's no real "soul" or "spirit" driving us. This was a big clash with what I used to believe – that our ancestors have a profound impact on the trajectory of our lives. But you know what? It made me realize something important: even if there's no grand cosmic plan for us, we still have the power to shape our lives the way we want.
Remember that story about people stuck in a dark cave, only seeing shadows on the wall? It's like we're often surrounded by distractions that keep us from seeing things clearly. For instance, I work in the IT field and the blockchain space, which means I'm knee-deep in technology and the online world. It's amazing how much stuff is out there, but it's also super easy to get lost in it. Social media, endless videos, and this new thing called the metaverse – they can all pull us away from what really matters.
And what matters? The present. It's so easy to get caught up in thinking about the past or worrying about the future. But the real magic happens in the now. Steve Jobs once talked about how doing great things means loving what you do. Well, loving what you do starts with being fully present, with being mindful.
So, in this phase of my life, I'm focusing on what's happening around me right now. I'm not letting myself get carried away by the constant stream of information and distractions. It's not about ignoring the past or the future – it's about finding that sweet spot where you're engaged with the world while staying anchored in the present.
As a member of Generation Z, I know how tough it can be. We're bombarded with so much stuff that it's easy to lose sight of what's real. But remember, my friends, reality is where the good stuff happens. So let's take a moment to breathe, to be aware, and to appreciate the now. That's where the real adventure lies.
